On October 21, 1995 the Excimer Laser was formally approved for Laser Eye Surgery by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). From 1996 to 1998 many eye surgeons obtained the training required to become certified LASIK surgeons, providing today’s market with a considerable number of LASIK surgeons who have over ten years experience performing Excimer Laser Eye Surgery. It is important to consider the number of years a surgeon has been performing LASIK surgery regularly, not just the length of time since they were certified with the Excimer Laser. Physicians who recently completed an Ophthalmology Residency or Fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery can generally be expected to have a minimum of 3 years experience using the Excimer Laser.

Within 1 month of LASIK surgery, what percentage of patients are able to pass a drivers test?
It is reasonable to expect that 95% + of those treated will be able to pass a drivers vision test with LASIK Surgery (Laser Eye Surgery).

The number given depends both on the surgeon and your prescription, but an acceptable answer is between 5 and 15%. A surgeon with a lower number is not necessarily better. They may be treating less complex cases, resulting in a lower rate of enhancement. |
