A new product’s safety and efficacy become obvious once it is being used to meet the expectations of eye surgeons and patients outside of experimental laboratories.  If the product in unable to meet expectations and satisfy clients it will not be successful.

While exact worldwide data are difficult to obtain,  LASIK data in the United States has been better tracked due to the monitoring of laser use through patent license fees paid to Excimer laser manufacturers. Since its FDA approval in 1998, over 8 million LASIK treatments have been performed.  LASIK is still the preferred procedure for those wanting to correct farsightedness, nearsightedness or astigmatism.
