LASIK Surgery Enhancements
Enhancement procedures are additional surgical treatments and are done at the discretion of your LASIK Surgeon based on your results. Enhancements should only be performed if there is a true medical necessity, not to achieve a slightly better visual acuity measurement. Ordinarily, enhancements are scheduled 2 to 3 months after a myopic LASIK and 3 to 4 months after a hyperopic LASIK when your vision has stabilized.
When performing an enhancement, there is usually no need to cut a new flap. The original flap is simply lifted, negating many of the risks associated with the original cut.
| In rare cases a new flap must be created. Enhancement does carry its own risks, such as epithelial ingrowth, so be sure to thoroughly discuss the procedure with your LASIK Surgeon. After an enhancement, you will undergo the same postoperative care and utilize the same medications as with your original treatment. |
