DRY EYES FROM LASIK EYE SURGERY
To ensure you have the best possible LASIK Eye Surgey experience, you should understand the basics of Dry Eye Syndrome. Dry Eyes can occur before and after LASIK Eye Surgery, and it is important to let your LASIK Surgeon know if you are predisposed as the condition can be irritated by the procedure.
Dry Eye from LASIK EYE SURGERY
Some people are not able to produce enough natural tears to keep the eye lubricated and healthy. This is called Dry Eye syndrome. Tears can be produced in 2 ways. They can be made at a slow, consistent rate, providing the eye with natural lubrication as needed. Alternatively, the eye can produce a large amount of tears as a reaction to irritation or strong emotions. Healthy eyes produce enough tears maintain lubrication, but it the eye is irritated it will produce an overabundance of tears. |

Symptoms of Dry Eyes from LASIK eye surgery?
Stinging, burning, scratchiness, reduced tolerance to smoke or wind, difficulty wearing contacts, excessive mucous production are all common symptoms of Dry Eyes from Lasik eye surgery.
Does LASIK Eye Surgery Cause Dry Eyes?
In some cases LASIK may cause Dry Eyes after surgery, particularly if the patient was prone to it before the procedure. When the flap of tissue is created on the eye, it is normal for the cornea nerves to be severed as part of the treatment. These order the Lacrimal Gland to produce tears, so when the impulses are interrupted and less tears are produced, Dry Eyes are the result. To ensure that you are comfortable after the treatment, your LASIK Surgeon may treat you for Dry Eyes before the procedure. Every LASIK patient will use artificial tears to encourage healing and help the layer of tears reestablish. |

Tell your LASIK Surgeon about any symptoms you may have, as well as about any medications that may predispose you to Dry Eyes. The vast majority of all Dry Eye symptoms will decrease over time and disappear completely within a few months. The more information your surgeon has before your treatment, the better your LASIK experience will be.
How to treat Dry Eye syndrome from LASIK Eye Surgery?
Dry Eyes can be treated in many ways. Aside from artificial tears, Tear Duct Plugs can help your eye keep the tears it produces, and some dietary supplements and prescription medications will stimulate natural production of tears.
